Last weekend, we spent the day with Yong-en Care Centre, joining their volunteers to deliver essential food packages to families in need.

The day started early with volunteers gathering to prepare the packages. Each bag was carefully packed with rice, cooking oil, noodles, canned food, and other daily necessities. It may look simple, but for many families, it means having one less thing to worry about.

Once everything was ready, we went door to door. At every stop, we met people with different stories. Some families shared their struggles of making ends meet, others welcomed us with warm smiles even though they had very little. It was humbling to see how much a small gesture could brighten their day.

One elderly lady told us how grateful she was that someone remembered her. Another family said the food would help them get through the week. These conversations showed us that kindness doesn’t have to be big—it just has to be present.

By the end of the day, we were tired but deeply fulfilled. Carrying the heavy bags was nothing compared to the joy of knowing they were going to homes that needed them.

Spending a day with Yong-en Care Centre reminded us that community care is powerful. When people come together, even small acts of giving can make a real difference.
